Welcome to the Pond Room for the 2014/15 School Year!

The curriculum and activities in the Pond Room are linked to provide a consistent learning experience for all the children.

ThemesOur theme for the first 2 weeks of school is All About Me and My Family.  Our themes for the entire school year are listed on this website under "School Calendar."

Weekly News from the Pond Room: Below on this classroom page is our weekly class curriculum and classroom information. You will receive these every week from your child's take-home box as well.

Week of November 24th --  We will have a Thanksgiving fruit feast on Monday.  Please send your child to school with a piece of their favorite fruit to share with the class.  Regular class will also be held on Tuesday.  Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

The children had fun sharing our Thanksgiving fruit feast, and singing all of the songs together!  Thanks to all the parents for providing such delicious fruit! We hope you all had a fun and relaxing time with loved ones.

Week of December 1st --    The children started to prepare for our holiday concert by learning some new songs! I will send home a sheet of lyrics with the songs marked for you. Since our Halloween sing-along was so successful, we hope to have a repeat performance!   One of our themes for this month is Gifts for other people.  The children and teachers will work together to make the first gift this week! Sharing Suggestion for Friday -- Please try to encourage your child to bring something winter or rain related. Try talking to your child about giving clues about their sharing item.

Week of December 8th --    Last week, the children started making the first of several presents to give away.  We also began talking about giving to others.  The children were asked "Who are you making this for?"  The subject is unfamiliar, yet interesting.  We will continue to explore the idea during our time together leading up to the holiday party (next week).

This Week, the children will hear Christmas- and Hanukkah-themed stories that go along with our holiday songs!  We will use the colors of the season to create crafts and decorations to bring home or display in our room.  The children will also continue making gifts for others.

Sharing --  Sharing happens on Fridays, unless we are having a family event.  For this week, the children may bring in something to share that is holiday themed.  The item should be something your child wants to tell their peers about.

Winter Weather -- Please be sure to dress your child for the weather.  We do go out in the rain.

Week of December 15th --  Last week, the children were busy practicing our holiday songs.  They're getting really excited to sing with their parents at the party on Friday!  We also worked on making some home made gifts.   This week, we will wrap our gifts, practice our songs, and enjoy more holiday stories!  The children will learn more about number sense and patterns by participating in some craft projects.  Our books this week will be Christmas- and winter-themed.

Have a safe, healthy and happy holiday season!

No sharing this week due to the holiday party.

HOLIDAY SING AND PARTY, FRIDAY DECEMBER 19TH -- Children arrive at 1:00pm, and family members return for our party at 2:00pm.  The whole family is welcome to attend!

Parent Visiting Days:  Visiting Days are a time for parents to spend the school day with their child.  They will be  scheduled to take place in early spring and are assigned to families according to the children's small groups. They are intended as a time for interaction, not just observation, and to encourage the participating parent’s involvement in their child's ongoing education.  Please no siblings or use of cell phones during Visiting Days.
