5PB: 4-year-olds M-F afternoons

Welcome to the Pond Room for the 2014/15 School Year!

The curriculum and activities in the Pond Room are linked to provide a consistent learning experience for all the children.

ThemesOur theme for the first 2 weeks of school is All About Me and My Family.  Our themes for the entire school year are listed on this website under "School Calendar."

Weekly News from the Pond Room: Below on this classroom page is our weekly class curriculum and classroom information. You will receive these every week from your child's take-home box as well.

Winter Weather -- Please be sure to dress your child for the weather.  We do go out in the rain.

News from the Pond for Week of January 12th -- Last week, we were having a great time getting to know the new friends who have joined our class!  The new friends are learning the routines of the class, and all the other children are practicing cooperative play with our new friends.  They are learning to help each other, ask for and say their own names upon request.  Turn taking is also a skill we are revisiting.  The energy level has gone up in the classroom since our return to school, with more children in the classroom -- which creates more opportunities for social learning.  We are having so much fun!

Next Week, we will continue our Arctic Animal theme.  The children will paint with frozen paint, make "ice" GAK, and continue their dramatic play with arctic animal figures.

News from the Pond for Week of January 19th -- Last Week, the children practiced interacting with each other while playing "name" games.  They also used their  bodies to play counting games together.  The art activities were open ended activities designed to explore adding textures with tools to art projects.  This Week, our theme for the week will be Farm.  We will sing songs, play games, and listen to stories about farm animals.  There will also be opportunities for dramatic play with puppets.  Sharing -- Please encourage your child to bring a farm related item for sharing this week.

Field Trip Ideas -- Does anyone have ideas for field trips for our class?  We would like to go on at least one field trip together in the spring.  Some ideas we have thought of include:  A train ride, a trip to a garden shop...

News from the Pond for Week of January 26th --

  • Monday, January 19th. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, School Closed
  • Saturday, January 24th. Parents Night Out (PNO) -- Please contact the office for details.
  • Sharing is always on Friday.  Our group is bigger, so we will only have time to share one item.
  • Scholastic book order forms are coming home the week of January 12th.  Families can order from the catalog online, or give a completed order form and check to the teachers.  The check should be written to Scholastic Books.  This is not a requirement.  You are free to order or not.

Visiting Days Information coming soon!

Parent Visiting Days:  Visiting Days are a time for parents to spend the school day with their child.  They will be  scheduled to take place in early spring and are assigned to families according to the children's small groups. They are intended as a time for interaction, not just observation, and to encourage the participating parent’s involvement in their child's ongoing education.  Please no siblings or use of cell phones during Visiting Days.
